  • Multi-timeframe alignment
  • Using structure in practice and tests

Support and Resistance in Plain Terms

Support is an area where buying interest has previously slowed or reversed a decline. Resistance is an area where selling interest has previously slowed or reversed a rise.

These are not magic lines. They are memory on the chart—places where traders may pay attention again. Levels can break, flip roles, or stop mattering as conditions change.

Think in Zones, Not Perfect Pixels

Price rarely respects a single tick forever. Marking a zone around clustered highs/lows, round numbers or prior swing points is usually more realistic than expecting exact touches. Wicks can pierce a zone and still leave the broader idea intact—until structure clearly fails.

Trend Structure

  • Uptrend — swing lows tend to rise; pullbacks often find buyers before prior lows break
  • Downtrend — swing highs tend to fall; rallies often fail before prior highs reclaim
  • Range — swings bounce between similar highs and lows
  • Break of structure — a swing that fails the prior pattern may signal a shift worth studying—not an automatic reverse trade

Breakouts, Retests and Failures

Breakout

Price moves through a prior zone. Meaningful breakouts often show follow-through; weak ones reverse quickly.

Retest

After a break, price returns to the zone. Former resistance can act as support (and vice versa)—sometimes, not always.

Failure

A break that cannot hold often traps late entries. Defining invalidation before entry helps limit damage.

Multi-Timeframe Habit

Daily or higher structure sets the larger map. Lower timeframes help with timing inside that map. Fighting a clear higher-timeframe trend with a tiny lower-timeframe pattern is a common beginner error.
